Frequently asked questions

Are you the best person to help me/us?

Talking about struggles is a difficult and vulnerable experience, therefore, it is important that you (and family members if appropriate) feel comfortable during appointments.

Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Service offers therapy for mental health difficulties for children, adolescents, families, and adults. To help you make a decision, a free 15-minute consultation call is available to see if Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Services are the best therapeutic fit, and this can be discussed further during an initial assessment. Feedback is welcomed and encouraged throughout any involvement.

If you are looking for consultation services, please get in contact to ascertain previous work offered.

Clinical Psychologist, Counsellor, or Psychiatrist?

Clinical Psychologists are trained professionals who have attended a high standard of training to a doctoral level. They are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Their training involved working with those across the lifespan and a range of psychological assessments and interventions. Psychiatrists are medically trained and regulated by the General Medical Council. They tend to prescribe medication to help with mental health conditions. Counsellors and Psychotherapists have often attended some degree of training and they can be regulated by professional bodies such as the UKCP. This clip helps to summarise the differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5N1H0VMPQI

The terms Psychologist, Counsellor, Therapist, are not protected and regulated terms, therefore, some individuals practice using these terms with minimal experience. When looking for support from a mental health professional, it is important ask what specific training they have done and if they are a member of a professional body.

How long is each therapy session, and how often do I attend?

Initial assessment appointments are approximately 90 minutes long. Further appointments are approximately 50 minutes long. The frequency of appointments is discussed during the initial appointment, but typically occur weekly.

It is important that you turn up to your session on time as additional time will not be added on to your arranged appointment.

Will everything be kept confidential and private?

I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). For more information, please visit their website. I also hold professional insurance and a clear DBS certificate.

Any information shared with Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Services will remain confidential, including conversations held in appointments and record keeping. There may be times when confidentiality is broken and information shared with others and services, such as, during concerns regarding an individual’s safety. Confidentiality will be discussed further during the initial appointment and the opportunity to ask questions.

What happens in talking therapy appointments?

First appointment are an initial assessment, which includes finding out more information from you (and family members if appropriate) of why you are looking for support or therapy for mental health difficulties.

Following appointments offer further assessment and the opportunity to create a shared understanding of the current struggles. Using this shared understanding, advice on appropriate and effective therapeutic approaches are given. Therapeutic decisions are informed by NICE Guidelines, research literature, and clinical experience. Therapy sessions are often an integration of evidence-based approaches to ensure support is based on your unique understanding of current struggles.

The initial assessment appointment offers an opportunity to ensure that we are a good therapeutic fit. During any point there is no obligation to continue, however, it is asked that if you are wishing to end involvement that this is discussed so the ending is safe and appropriate, especially when others are involved (for example, young people). There may be occasions when I feel that my skill set may not be the most suited to your situation, and I may signpost you to other clinicians with a more suited background.

A risk assessment is completed with all individuals/families to ensure safety is maintained. Risk assessments are regularly reviewed during subsequent appointments. Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Services is unable to support people who are experience high levels of risk, and services are recommended that can offer a multidisciplinary approach, such as the NHS. Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Services does not offer a crisis service. Support cannot be offered outside of arranged appointment times. Please see the resources page for services that can support you during times of crisis.

What if If I need to cancel my appointment?

48 hours' (2 full working days) cancellation notice is needed prior to any agreed appointment. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice then the payment cannot be refunded, as this is too late notice to offer the appointment to anybody else.

When an appointment is booked you will receive email confirmation. Please get in contact via this email address when you require to cancel or re-arrange an appointment.

If you are looking to fund sessions using an insurer, please check with your insurer to see if cancellations are covered. If these are not covered, you would be liable for the cost of any missed appointments.  More information is provided in the full set of T&C's.

How do I secure my appointment?

To secure your appointment, Dr. Rebecca Money Psychological Services needs to have received a signed copy of the terms and conditions and full payment at least 48 hours prior to the agreed appointment time. Appointments cannot be secured and guaranteed without both of these.
