Psychological Therapy for Young People
You don’t have to figure everything out alone
Growing up can be exciting, confusing, and stressful, sometimes all at once. Your young people might be dealing with anxiety, low mood, friendship or family difficulties. They may be experiencing school pressure, worries about the future, or struggling to forget or move on from past traumatic events. They may simply be feeling like things are getting too much. Therapy gives your young person a private, supportive space to talk about what’s going on.
Young people might come to therapy if they are experiencing:
-
Anxiety, worry, or panic
-
Obsessions, compulsions, rituals, or repetitive behaviours that are bothering you (this may be OCD)
-
Fears or phobias, including worries of sick (emetophobia)
-
Low mood or feeling overwhelmed
-
Stress around school, college or exams
-
Friendship or relationship difficulties
-
Family changes
-
Low self-esteem or confidence
-
Big emotions that feel difficult to manage
-
Changes in sleep, motivation or routine
-
Feeling stuck, lost or unsure what you want
-
Difficult past experiences that are still affecting you now
You don’t need a diagnosis or a particular reason to ask for support. If something is bothering you, it’s okay to talk about it.
Sessions can be led and guided by you and your family, meaning they can be a 1:1 private space for young people to get support. There may be times when it is helpful for a family member to join and learn other ways to help understand and support their young person.
Supporting young people with their mental health involves tailoring intervention to their developmental stage and wider circumstances. Dr Rebecca Money Psychological Services has extensive experience in helping young people who are experiencing struggles with their mood and mental health, including specialist training and clinical experience.
Sessions are available for young people secondary school aged and above, with the opportunity for parent consultation and support. Patents/Carers are invited to all initial assessment appointments before starting therapy sessions. Appointments can be either online or in person.
At present I am not able to offer sessions for those primary school aged and younger, those seeking family therapy, or families seeking support in managing parental separations.
